Paper can resist folding differently in each direction. A test fold helps determine whether a particular stock creases neatly at the booklet's center.
Compare before printing the full design
Fold a spare sheet in the intended direction and inspect the crease. Smooth the fold carefully without damaging the surface. If the chosen stock buckles or cracks, try a suitable alternative rather than assuming a sharper crease will fix it.
Final check
Check that the folded edges meet and that the booklet closes comfortably without excessive pressure.
