An uncut sheet can make the card seem larger because the surrounding paper adds visual space. The finished portrait area is what matters.
Evaluate the trimmed sample
Cut one proof and look at the face, name, and date line together. If the portrait is hard to recognize, use a closer crop or a more suitable image before increasing the print quantity.
Final check
Compare the result with the selected card size, not with the full US Letter sheet.
