Keeping Memorial Text Readable Over a Photo

InMemoryStudio ·

A photograph's busy background can make words hard to read even when the text is large. Move the text or provide a plain area behind it.

Practical check

Check the name against the lightest and darkest parts of the image; place it on a calm region or an opaque text panel if supported.

Make it fit your situation

Do not rely on a decorative shadow alone to rescue low contrast.

High contrast should apply to practical text as well as the name. A clearly visible title does not compensate for a pale date, venue, or small paragraph hidden over a patterned background.

Before you finish

Use the final exported file for a test print before ordering the full quantity. Printer settings, paper, and trimming can change the result. Ask the print provider about its requirements rather than assuming that every machine behaves the same way.
