Scanning a Printed Photograph for a Memorial

InMemoryStudio ·

A scan is usually more usable than a casual phone photograph of a glossy print. Keep the print flat and check for dust before scanning.

Practical check

Scan the original photograph, keep the largest practical file, and inspect the face before cropping or resizing.

Make it fit your situation

If you photograph instead, use even light and avoid reflections; do not permanently alter a fragile original print.

Scan before cropping so you retain the original edge and can correct the crop later. Store the unchanged scan separately from any edited version used for the memorial design.

Before you finish

Use the final exported file for a test print before ordering the full quantity. Printer settings, paper, and trimming can change the result. Ask the print provider about its requirements rather than assuming that every machine behaves the same way.
