Red-eye may become more conspicuous when a small photograph is enlarged. Choosing another original is often the simplest solution if the editor does not offer a dedicated correction.
Prepare the image before placement
Use a corrected copy you trust or an alternative portrait. Keep the original unchanged. Do not claim that changing the template or choosing black and white necessarily fixes the underlying eye detail.
Final check
Inspect both eyes in the exported proof rather than judging only the full-poster thumbnail.
