How to Print a Folded Funeral Program at Home

A one-sheet test can save an entire print run. Here is what to check.

Know the sheet and the finished size

A four-page booklet uses both sides of one 11 × 8.5-inch US Letter sheet. Folded once, it becomes a 5.5 × 8.5-inch booklet. The PDF pages are arranged for that fold, so do not print the four panels as four separate full-size sheets.

Use the print-ready PDF supplied with the design. In the print dialog, select US Letter paper and print at Actual size or 100%, rather than a setting that silently scales the artwork to fit. Printer names and menu labels vary, so check the preview before printing.

Make one test copy first

Print a single sheet on both sides, fold it, and read all four pages in order. If the inside is upside down, change the duplex flip setting and try again. The correct setting depends on the printer and how it feeds landscape pages; a test is more reliable than assuming one setting works everywhere.

  • Check that the cover and back page are on the outside after folding.
  • Check that the biography and order of service read in the intended order inside.
  • Check that no important text is cut off near a paper edge or the fold.
  • Look at the portrait and small text in the printed copy, not only on screen.

Then print the remaining copies

Once the test looks right, use the same paper, scale, and duplex settings for the rest. If your printer cannot print both sides automatically, print a small batch manually first and confirm which way to reinsert the sheets. For a local print counter, share the PDF and tell them the finished booklet folds to 5.5 × 8.5 inches.

Frequently asked questions

What paper size does a four-page booklet use?

It uses both sides of one US Letter 11 × 8.5-inch sheet, folded to about 5.5 × 8.5 inches.

Why is the inside upside down on my test?

The printer's duplex flip setting may not match the landscape sheet. Change it and print one more test before the full batch.

Should I select Fit to page?

Check the print dialog carefully. Actual size or 100% preserves the intended sheet dimensions when your printer supports them.
