Choosing a Color or Black-and-White Portrait

InMemoryStudio ·

Black and white can unify photographs from different periods, while color may preserve a familiar detail. Neither choice is a requirement for remembrance.

Practical check

Compare both versions at the final size. Look for clear eyes, natural facial detail, and separation from the background.

Make it fit your situation

Use only editing tools actually available in the current workflow; save an unchanged copy of the original.

Compare skin tones and recognizable details rather than choosing a monochrome version solely to hide poor lighting. A restrained color photograph can be entirely suitable for a memorial keepsake.

Before you finish

Use the final exported file for a test print before ordering the full quantity. Printer settings, paper, and trimming can change the result. Ask the print provider about its requirements rather than assuming that every machine behaves the same way.
