A family photograph can work if the remembered person remains easy to recognize. Other faces should not be accidentally half-cut by the portrait area.
Select the crop with the family
Keep the important relationship visible while avoiding unexplained fragments at the edges. A tighter portrait crop may be preferable for a small card, with the wider photo retained in a booklet.
